Several years ago, the founders of the Sierra Foundation recognized that student groups in the Sierra Unified School District needed assistance. These groups needed coordination of accounting services, as well as direct monetary support to keep their programs viable. Our students needed an organization that would raise money, and in turn support programs that needed extra help to achieve their goals. The founders decided to take action.
The Sierra Foundation was formed in 2007 as a California non-profit public benefit corporation. Our primary mission is to support the collaboration of fundraising efforts of and for the diverse groups of academic and co-curricular organizations in support of the students at Sierra Unified School District and its feeder districts, helping our students "to reach new heights in educational excellence." In February 2008, the Foundation was granted tax exempt status [501(c)(3)] and began fundraising efforts.
On May 3, 2008, the Foundation held its first fundraising dinner at the Old Qualls Ranch. Net proceeds from the event totaled approximately $13,000. As is the intention and mission of the Foundation, this money has been used directly to support a wide cross-section of student programs in need within Sierra Unified.
Despite the declining enrollment situation in SUSD, and state and federal budget cuts, the Sierra Foundation is looking forward to another successful school year.
Our next annual fundraiser, PoloFest, is currently scheduled for Fall 2021. This annual event, generously sponsored by Sebastian, features a polo exhibition, champagne reception, dinner, dancing, raffles, live and silent auctions; all under the stars at Joshua Field nestled at the base of our beautiful Foothills. The Sierra Foundation has also become a member of the California Consortium of Education Foundations and will be seeking fundraising ideas and grant opportunities which will benefit our students, helping them to "to reach new heights in educational excellence."
If you have an activity or project that is in need of funding, you are encouraged to download and review an Application for Funding, fill it out and return it to the Sierra High School District Office.
